Review of Blue Martini in Las Vegas, NV (Posted by dwight dyer, Sep 30,2008)
This is supposed to be the new Happy Hour hotspot in Vegas with 2 for 1 cocktails served between 4 - 6pm. I arrived at 7:30pm with the average drink price at that time was $7.00. A very large upscale come as you are bar with various VIP sections and indoor/outdoor seating. I was dissappointed at how small the Flat screens were for the size of the restaurant. Live Band during Monday Night Football. This is located in the back of the Town Center Plaza upstairs. Better off going to the Yard House below. Free parking.
Review of Big Dog's Bar & Grillý in Las Vegas, NV (Posted by dwight dyer, Se...
This is a sports bar. Period! Darts, pool, t-shirt giveaways, free shots, microbrews, etc. A fun, loud place where the locals wanna meet you and the food is big. Try the Potato Skins or the Pizza. It's all good. Table games and 4 of a kind bonusus paid nightly.
Review of Le Taj in Montreal, Canada (Posted by Sally Hunter, Sep 30,2008)
The baigan bharta is one of the most memorable dishes I have had at Le Taj. It has a gentle sweetness thanks to the roasted egg plant, mixed with a spicy aroma from the curried onions and tomatoes. It is a great side dish that will make your palate tingle. I highly recommend it with the chicken xacutti, full of flavor and spices.
Review of Yaya's Flame Broiled Chicken in Lansing, MI (Posted by Ryan Johnson...
YaYa’s is a chain of 17 restaurants with locations in Michigan and Florida. The first restaurant was opened in Seminole, FL in 1985, but the first franchise location was opened in Flint, MI in 1988. There are two locations here in Lansing and both are on Saginaw Highway. There’s this one by the mall and the other is farther down Saginaw near US 127. This particular YaYa’s is located in a shopping plaza in a very commercialized area of Saginaw Highway. It was a little after two when I went looking for lunch. There were no cars parked in front and the inside was empty. The store is not very big. It’s longer than it is wide and there are a handful of tables in the space to sit and eat. The counter is located at the far end of the space. The menu board is behind the counter above the grills where the whole chickens are butterflied and grilled. I mentioned earlier this was a great idea for a chicken restaurant. I say that because the way the chicken is cooked. No grease. No batter. No oil. There are signs around the restaurant bragging about that point. “Fewer calories. Less Fat. Less Cholesterol.” If you’ve never had grilled chicken, you’re really missing out on something. When I cook chicken at home, I do that a lot. I’ll fire up the grill and throw whole chicken or bone in pieces on and let it cook over an open flame. It actually tastes better than deep fried chicken and it’s much better for you.I didn’t want a whole lot to eat or spend a ton of money. The menu consists of your typical chicken meals, sandwiches, salads, soups, and sides. There’s an option for a couple value meals. I ordered the first value meal which is one wing, one let, and one side. It really is a value at only $4.02. For the side, I got the garden salad. The guy who took my order also prepared the to-go box for me. He pulled a whole chicken off the grill behind him and cut the two pieces off with a big meat cleaver. The pieces weren’t very big, but you can’t really expect much for $4. I grabbed the bag and headed back to my truck to get home and eat.The smells were amazing. It was really hard not to reach in back and grab the chicken on the way home. I love the smell of grilled food and YaYa’s had that smell. When I finally got home, I threw the groceries on the table and dug in. Like I said, the chicken pieces were pretty small, but they had a lot of meat. The chicken was delicious. It was exactly what I was hoping for. I’m going to be really tempted to go back sometime and get a breast or some bigger pieces. YaYa’s is such a great concept, I’m surprised it’s not taking off. Everyone loves chicken, but there are so many problems with traditional fried chicken when it comes to dieting. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting when I first saw the signs for YaYa’s when we moved here, but all my expectations were shattered. They satisfy the chicken craving without the grease and breading.
Review of Sal's Italian Ice in Sanford, FL (Posted by Angie turk, Oct 01,2008)
Sals italian ice is a drive thru ice cream shop. My mom and I drove by it and decided to try it. We moved down here from Ny Ny and this italian ice tastes just like home, it has so much flavor. They also have other treats as well shakes, splits , floats the real way but the best thing was something called a gelati. Its like italian ice layerd with high quality ice cream. Review of Gold Coast Dogs in Chicago, IL (Posted by Ryan Johnson, Oct 01,2008)
Gold Coast Dogs is a small Chicago chain with locations at the airports, train stations and a few stand alone shops all in Chicago. This particular Gold Coast Dogs shares a building with Popeyes Chicken. It’s a very bland, strip mall looking store front. Not very inviting. I could see the menu from the sidewalk and I saw they served Italian Beef so I went in. Confusing set up. There’s a sign that says “Order Here” on the Gold Coast Dogs side, but there’s also a roped off bullpen area near the cash register. I walked up to the “Order Here” sign and the girl behind the counter told me to get in the roped area in an accent I could barely understand. Once I did what she said, the same girl then became pleasant and asked what I wanted. Stupid set-up. I ordered the Italian Beef value meal. Again, couldn’t understand a word she was saying to me, so there were no onions or mozzarella on the sandwich. I did manage to understand her asking me if I wanted it dipped or dry. Duh. Dipped! Not smart when eating on the run, but you can’t eat a dry Italian Beef.Another guy rang up my order which came to just under eight bucks. I grabbed my sack and headed back towards the train station on Michigan Avenue. I needed to make some phone calls while I ate, so I set up a make shift table on top of the newspaper box on the corner. The Beef was freakin delicious. I didn’t have high hopes, but apparently, they’re one of the top hot dog shops in Chicago. My sandwich was classic Italian Beef, dripping with au jus and the bun was so soggy, it was falling apart. I scarfed it down very quickly hoping I’d never get to the end. The fries were OK. Nothing special, but the beef….wow!Gold Coast Dogs was something I needed. It was quick and it’s classic Chicago style food. God, I miss this stuff in Mid-Michigan. There are so many great dog places in Chicago that very few stand out. Gold Coast doesn’t quite jump out on it’s own, but it holds it place in a very crowded field.
Review of Sal's Italian Ice in Sanford, FL (Posted by mary jane, Oct 01,2008)
Sal's Italian Ice has the best Italian Ice and Ice Cream around. The Italian Ice is homemade right in the store. The staff is always friendly and very quick. Not to mention the strawberry gelatis are the best and the prices can't be beat. It's a very cute small building so drive slowly or you just might miss it.
Review of Luconi's Pizza in Bradley, IL (Posted by Ryan Johnson, Oct 03,2008)
I found Luconi’s Pizza on Kennedy drive next to the Taco John’s we always went to when I was kid. The last time I lived in the area, the building where the pizza joint now is was a cyber cafe. It’s a really small building with a really small parking lot. I found a space along the side and parked there. When I got inside, I didn’t really know what to do. There are a handful of tables, but there’s also a counter to order. I didn’t know if it was a place where you order first then sit down or not. I kind of looked at the menu and eventually noticed menus on the table. That was my cue to take a seat and wait for a waitress.I stopped at Luconi’s with my sights set on the burger. I was almost swayed in a different direction when I saw an all-you-can eat pizza buffet for $4.99, but I didn’t want that much pizza. I stuck to my original idea and got the 1/2 lb bacon cheeseburger. I made it a combo and added fries and a Pepsi. My sister-in-law’s mom told me there would probably be a wait for my sandwich due to the size. It did take about fifteen minutes. When the waitress set the burger down in front of me, my mouth was watering. The sandwich was huge and it was piled with bacon. There wasn’t just a few strips. Oh, no. There was a mound of bacon. The patty was a good size, but it was a frozen burger so there wasn’t a ton of flavor. The sandwich overall was very good. The fries were crinkle cuts out of the bag. My appetite must be getting smaller because this burger almost conquered me. I was struggling with the last few bites, but I made it. My bill was just over six bucks before tip. Luconi’s is getting a lot of buzz around town. My brother, who only eats at chains because you always know what you’re going to get, even raved about the pizza there. Luconi’s was a pleasant surprise to me. I’m hoping to get an opportunity to search the Kankakee area a little more and find some of these places. Luconi’s was a great start.
Review of Blue's Cafe in Kankakee, IL (Posted by Ryan Johnson, Oct 03,2008)
Blue’s Cafe is located on Station Street not far from the hospital. It’s a very plain building with an old sign out front adorned with an old Pepsi logo and the words “Blue’s Cafe.” Since we got there at such a wierd time, the dining room was fairly empty. There are two dining rooms that probably used to be the smoking and non-smoking section before Illinois got smart and banned smoking in public places. There’s also a lunch counter near the kitchen in the first dining room. My aunt and I grabbed a table in the second dining room and a waitress brought us water and a couple menus. Since I had a big lunch, I wasn’t super hungry, but knew I needed to eat something not knowing when I would get another meal. I ordered the grilled chicken breast sandwich and a Pepsi. I thought the sandwich seemed awfully cheap. Once I got my chicken, I realized why. No fries. No sides. Just a sandwich. That’s ok. I didn’t need fries anyway. The grilled chicken was actually pretty good. It was caramelized in several places. It wasnt’ huge, but filled the need. My aunt ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a cup of chili. The chili was brought out right away and she dove in with the oyster crackers served on the side. It wasn’t a huge cup, but she’s really cold blooded and that chili warmed her up quick. Her sandwich was served on wheat bread so you get the idea of the size. She didn’t say anything about it either way and I didn’t ask any questions. Even though Blue’s is known for pie, we both passed and headed back to the hospital to wait some more. Blue’s was good diner food in a good atmosphere. Everyone who was in there seemed to know each other. Our bill was about $12 for the two sandwiches, chili and two pops. Definitely not horrible. Blue’s is a place I would go back for breakfast, but lunch was nothing outstanding. Good solid staples, but not gonna knock your socks off.
Review of Hog Fathers LLC in Washington, PA (Posted by Tiffany Niekro, Oct 03...
I first went here with my parents, who live in Ohio. It was so good that on Father's Day, we drove from Ohio to Washington, to get food for my dad and brother in law for a Father's Day surprise. Both my parents and my sister's family love this food so much that often they come to visit me just so we can go there. Everything is great, but I especially love the apple dumpling. It is amazingly delicious, and I don't even like apples. I am going there tonight and cannot wait!
Review of O'leary's Irish Pub On The Square in Woodstock, IL (Posted by Rober...
With the nation's economy, such as it is, it's not surprisingto note that many of the area restaurants are closing theirdoors. But such is not the case with the newly openedO'Leary's Pub On The Square in Woodstock, Illinois. With alot of Irish tradition, the management has sought to make itas Irish as they can. The menu features such choices as:"Corned Beef & Cabbage, Shepherd's Pie, Bangers & Mash,Potato Soup, etc." Their array of Sandwiches and Burgers, for something a bit lighter, leaves nothing more to be desired. When it comes to libations, the Pub (a.k.a. Bar) features afull array of Irish beers and Ales (on tap): Guinness Stout,Smithwick's Irish Ale, Harp Lager, Bass Pale Ale and a fullline of Domestic beers. Plus it also stocks the best ofWines, Spirits & Liquors. You are going to find the Servers (Waitresses and Bartenders) to be very helpful in seeing to your specific requests.O'Leary's Pub is located at 113 South Benton Street,Woodstock, IL 60098. That's on the historic Woodstock Square.Come SEE and be SEEN.
Review of Happy's Pizza in Lansing, MI (Posted by William Franken, Oct 03,2008)
First thing is the remodel on the building really dresses up the corner of Cedar and Miller, second, my order was taken in good time but I had to wait 25 minutes before it was turned over to me, (rib tip dinner) I thought it would have been faster seeing as how, naturally the ribs were pre cooked. The help was trying real hard to get out the orders in good time, I just thought my order was a little slow in being handled.I would go back and try the pizza, it looked real good.
Review of Ariana's Ristorante Italiano in North Wales, PA (Posted by Linda Yo...
My first experience: Everyone in my party ordered something different and we all enjoyed our entries. The portions were large enough to have something to take home, since we saved room for dessert, which was also delicious. The food, presentation, service and atmosphere made for a nice dining experience. But the true highlight of our night was the entertainment of Nick who played the accordian and sang. His passion and personality were contagious throughout the dining room as he performed song after beautiful song.My second experience: Once again we enjoyed good food and good service. Unfortunately there was no entertainment this time, due to summer business we were told. Hoping that Nick will be there to make our night, next time.
Review of Olive Garden in Greenville, SC (Posted by George Bednar, Oct 04,2008)
Pizza was so heavily laden with salt it was inedible. Service was poor. When we received our bank statement, we found that the server had helped himself to an additional tip, courtesy of our debit card. This is theft. The company has been notified. We will never return to this restaurant.
Review of Shaw's Coffee House in St Louis, MO (Posted by Erin Schmidt, Oct 04...
Went on a Saturday morning, there were 2 baristas who didn't have a clue. There where 3 people in front of us and there ended up being 3 behind us. It took ten minutes, TEN for the line to move, then once we had ordered it took FIFTEEN minutes for the barista to notice they had forgotten to make our order. Everyone else had come and gone, we were still waiting. Then, low and behold the bagel I ordered had all been given away to the customers BEHIND me. Once I got my bagel, I was told to "have a good day!" I still hadn't received my coffee and they had no idea what I had ordered. Unfortunetly for them I, and a great number of friends frequent coffee houses around town on a weekly basis-it was our first time visiting and you couldn't pay us to return. Sadly, a very dissapointing experience.
